Inner city secret garden: Before and After

One of our favourite before and after jobs ! An amazing renovation project in New Farm to provide a rear extension to the property to create a new laundry, family/guest room, guest bathroom and most importantly outdoor entertaining area. It was a privilege to be involved, for me personally this project was extra special as was for my dear friends so I felt very humbled to be invited to collaborate.

Our clients had a shoebox of a laundry with no natural light or storage space. They wanted  a light-filled area, with decent benches to organise the laundry and lots of storage space so things could be ordered neatly and tucked away from view. A sky light was added to bring natural light into the room. Beautiful jade penny rounds added texture and interest, along with brass tapware that patinas beautifully with time and classic shaker cabinetry.

We designed a study nook which now doubles as a guest bedroom and kids lounge room! This was an important space, as the clients have their family visit from the UK on a regular basis and needed a guest wing to provide much needed extra space. This has also become a lovely space to work from and found to be invaluable during Covid times when a space away from the kids was needed to conduct meetings and focus on work. We commissioned the desk, shelves and custom wardrobe cabinetry through

Creating a welcoming indoor/outdoor living space and a connection to the main house was a key goal for this project. In QLD the summer sun is unforgiving so having a space to entertain day or night…..come rain, hail or shine was an important factor. The team at Zou Build did a wonderful job with the construction creating beautiful exposed beams and Vj lined ceiling detail. The stunning floor is a Garone limestone french pattern stone tile from Eco Outdoor and feels amazing underfoot.

I can speak from recent personal experience following a long lunch that stretched into the wee hours that this is an excellent place to entertain, eat, drink, dance and be merry! It certainly ticked all the boxes for an excellent outdoor party space…..thank you again to my dear friends for asking me to be involved!

Frequently asked questions

  • Great question! One of the first things we discuss is your budget, to ensure we are spending wisely and appropriately with your best interest in mind. This also makes sure you don’t fall in love with something you can’t afford. Secondly, we ask the client to complete a detailed questionnaire and homework to form a Pinterest board of images, pinpointing subconscious preferences or recurring design elements they may be drawn to. We design a 3D model to figure out the functionality of the space and get the layout and flow right before we start adding furniture. This also creates a visual tool to be able to 'show' rather than just 'tell' what their space will look like. From there, we move through your customised project in a timely manner and agreed timeframe.

  • At Angie Rogers Interiors, our mission is to make you feel seen, heard and understood. We are the best listeners in the game - we aren’t going to give you a cookie cutter design. If you are someone who is willing and open to being guided by an expert in your project, reducing your overwhelm, and creating a clear, easy to understand strategy - we are the people for you!
